Artist’s Statement:
My name is Alexandra Feusi, Im a Swiss-Polish artist, musician, and DJ from Zurich.
After completing my bachelor’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts, I moved to Vienna in 2018 to study Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Currently, I’m on an exchange year at Kyoto University of the Arts.
My artistic focus is primarily on abstract painting and figurative drawing, but I’ve explored nearly every art form, since everything I create comes from the same source: my life, my emotions, and my perspective on the world.

Two weeks before moving to Japan, I unexpectedly had to end a long, unhappy relationship. When I arrived in Kyoto last September, I was heartbroken, lost, and lonely.
In my new studio, I couldnt paint. I felt the need to scream, so I didsilently, with my colored pencils. When I was a child, drawing has always been my safe place, my private little planet, and my favorite toy.

So I decided to draw. For the first time in my life, I made very large drawings on canvas.
When life felt so abstract and confusing, I needed something concrete to hold on to.
I felt a strong urge to draw huge self-portraits. but even though I’m drawing myself, it’s not about me or my appearance. It’s a portrait of a person who feels a certain way, its about feelings that we all know. If you recognize yourself in my portrait I’m happy. I am merely the vessel. To write these words, I use my fingers to tell a story, my voice and lips to communicate, and my face and eyes to show my feelings.

I can’t reinvent the world, but I can show it from my point of view. I am the only methat can ever be. One single person among many others, but I am all that I have and all that I am.
