Kondo Takashi: Silver Echo
2025.04.07 – 04.30
We are pleased to present Takashi Kondo’s solo exhibition “Silver Echo” from Monday, April 7 through Wednesday, April 30.
The gallery is currently adorned in the vibrant spirit of spring—petals dancing in the air, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. We warmly invite you to stop by and experience this seasonal celebration through art.
[Artist’s Statement]
Last year, I had the honor of dedicating four cherry blossom paintings to the main hall of a Buddhist temple.
Many of the works in this exhibition incorporate silver leaf, which has been chemically darkened using sulfur powder after application.
Cherry blossoms in full bloom possess an overwhelming beauty—perhaps because they evoke something unknowable, something just beyond our grasp.
The scorched silver leaf, to me, resonates with the haunting imagery found in the opening line of Motojirō Kajii’s Under the Cherry Trees, where he writes of corpses beneath the blossoms.
Cherry blossoms are simply beautiful.
But if you sense that mysterious undercurrent within their beauty, I would be deeply gratified.
Please note that the gallery will be closed on the following dates: April 8 (Tue), 11 (Fri), 15 (Tue), 18 (Fri), 19 (Sat), 22 (Tue), as well as on Sundays and public holidays.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you.
