IGAWA TAKESHI

PROFILE

Linear Stripes

Takeshi Igawa currently continues working on his own production, while educating the younger generations at Saga University. The support of his works shows a bold and spontaneous expression by using urethane and palm leaves which he found on the campus. He first molds urethane and leaves using the technique of dry lacquer, then repeats coating and polishing many times to express the unique polish of Japanese lacquer. Through these processes, the polish of lacquer shines on the surprisingly sharp and beautiful form. If you stare at it, the lacquer may be transparent and look like black glass. The wave-shaped form made of a palm leaf is also unique, and is associated with the sea and waves. His works are displayed at the entrance of Kyoto Ritz-Carlton.
