Alternative Selection 3

“Tricolore”

2020.04.08 – 04.25

This time we’ll set up at the FESTART 2020. Kouichi Fine Arts is pleased to present Alternative Selection 3 ‘tricolore’ from April 8 to 25th. ‘tricolore’ is an exhibition of the work of three artists: Koji Okuda, Nobuko Sugio, and Takashi Kondo.

Koji Okuda creates objets d’art with a 3D printer he made himself. A display of cat motif pepper mills are the highlight of his exhibition here.

Unleashing her imagination as she listens to every sounds, Nobuko Sugio lets her brush run free.

Takashi Kondo, a designer at CILANDSIA, is active as an artist as well. He mainly produces hand printed paintings by using the silkscreen technique.

We welcome you to come experience their works.

Takashi Kondo has been active as a designer for “CILANDSIA.” His parents cultivate Tillandsia flowers, and the flower of Tillandsia is often used as a motif in his design. Some of you may be familiar with his apparel products, but at this exhibition, we will introduce new works of him as an artist. They are mysterious works. Silk screen prints, pictures, paintings, and designs, all different kinds mixed together in his works. They have a casual sense, and look classy. It seems that his techniques and sensibilities as a designer seen in his clothes are projected on the canvas. In addition to canvas, there are also works that have silk screened on materials such as T-shirts. It is a novel work with a beautiful standing figure, with the flowers of Tillandsia visible and hidden.

Koji Okuda creates a plastic support with a 3D printer and combines these parts into a piece. However, Okuda’s humorous work called “twisted cat” is a mere humorous work, and it is not just a matter of painting and assembling the supports printed with a 3D printer. He begged the Buddhist teacher to make the “lively” eyes of the cat.
In fact, it’s a tremendously elaborate piece that takes a quite long time. In this exhibition, we exhibit works of new collaboration with Nobuko Sugio. In addition, to make a work that matches the outlet called “Cat warps”, he acquired electrical work qualification. Originally, he is also an ikebana artist of Saga Goryu. His work is very dexterous and versatile, and at the same time, Okuda’s ever-changing challenges and supple sensibilities bring surprise and healing to viewers.

Nobuko Sugio first empties her head, then listens to herself. Electronic sounds faintly heard from the refrigerator, children’s voices in the distance, and the sound of the wind suddenly blows. Not only the various life sounds coming from her ears, but sometimes she listens to the radio and run a paintbrush. The lines gradually become more dense and pile up, forming a picture on the canvas. It wasn’t thought out and twisted in advance, but was created just like that, with the lines blown by the wind scattered on the canvas. However, there is a drama in the picture, there is a landscape, and sometimes the wind blows, the warm sun shines, and the lines come to life to make you feel the lively conversation of many people. All of those elements form a painting of Nobuko Sugio.
